Zion Lutheran Church
Zion Orchestra
Did you ever play an instrument in band or orchestra? Do you currently play an instrument in high school or college? Then whether you are an adult, a youth or college age, you should join Zion’s orchestra. Dust off that old instrument and play it for the Lord. The Zion Orchestra plays for special worship services throughout the year like Reformation, All-Saints, Christmas Eve, Palm Sunday, Good Friday Tenebrae, Easter, and Pentecost. Richard orchestrates and arranges the music to our specific need and talent levels. We rehearse a couple of times before events on Sunday afternoons as needed in the Sanctuary. It is a lot of fun breaking out those old musical chops and praising the Lord with our instruments. Contact Richard Burke at rpalburke@gmail.com
If you have a favorite hymn or piece of sacred music you might like to hear in worship, who knows; we might be able to present it, if it fits within the theme of our one of our worship services. Contact Richard Burke at rpalburke@gmail.com
Interested in Courses in Hymnody
From time to time, Richard gives various lecture series on church music history and hymnody. If you are interested in learning more about worship music, music theory, how to read music or perhaps using one of these courses as a stepping-stone toward participating with one or more of our musical groups, contact Richard Burke at rpalburke@gmail.com
“Praise the Lord in His sanctuary; … Praise Him with trumpet sound; praise Him with lute and harp!
Praise Him with tambourine and dance; praise Him with strings and pipe!
Praise Him with sound cymbals; praise Him with loud clashing cymbals!
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!”
(Psalm 150, ESV)
“When in our music, God is glorified, and adoration leaves no room for pride, it is as thought the whole creation cried: Alleluia!
How oft, in making music, we have found a new dimension in the world of sound as worship moved us to a more profound Alleluia!
So has the Church, in liturgy and song, in faith and love, through centuries of wrong, borne witness to the truth in ev’ry tongue, Alleluia!
And did not Jesus sing a psalm that night when utmost evil strove against the light? Then let us sing, for whom He won the fight: Alleluia!
Let ev’ry instrument be tuned for praise, let all rejoice who have a voice to raise, and may God give us faith to sing always: Alleluia!”
